Ingredients

Instructions

  • Trim ends of asparagus so they are 5-6 inches long. Place in mixing bowl and toss with olive oil to coat. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Take 5-6 asparagus spears and one slice of bacon. Wrap bacon around the asparagus. Secure with toothpick if desired.

Grill

  • Heat grill to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Grill for 10 minutes. Flip and grill for an additional 10 minutes or until bacon is crispy and asparagus is cooked through.

Oven Bake

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set a wire rack on top. Arrange the bundles on the rack, seam-side down, with at least 1 inch of space between each.
  • Bake for 18 to 22 minutes in preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, until the bacon is crispy and the asparagus is tender. For extra-crispy bacon, switch the oven to broil for the last 2 minutes. Watch closely, it goes from crispy to charred in about 30 seconds.

Air Fryer

  • Preheat air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly spray the basket with oil (or use a perforated parchment liner)
  • Place the bundles in a single layer, seam-side down, without crowding. Leave space between each. Most air fryers fit 4 to 6 bundles at a time, so plan on working in batches for larger quantities
  • Air fry for 6 minutes. Open the basket and flip each bundle carefully with tongs. Air fry for another 5 to 6 minutes, until the bacon is crispy.

Stovetop

  • Heat a large cast-iron or nonstick skillet over medium heat. Don't add oil, the bacon will render plenty.
  • Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until the bacon on the bottom is golden and crispy. Using tongs, rotate each bundle a quarter turn. Cook another 3 to 4 minutes. Rotate again. Cook another 3 to 4 minutes. One more rotation, cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until all sides of the bacon are crispy and the asparagus is tender. Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate for 1 minute to drain, then serve.

Notes

Fridge: Bacon wrapped asparagus is best enjoyed right away when they are most crips, but if you have leftovers put them in an airtight container and store for up to 3 days.
I recommend placing them on a rimmed baking sheet and reheating in the oven to crisp up the bacon. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit until warmed through.
You could also chop them up, add them to a skillet and heat through. They'd make an amazing addition to pasta with a butter sauce.
