Baked Apples FAQs!

Even though the recipe for these Baked Apples might be fairly straight forward, there are still a few questions that might come up along the way. Here are some of the common questions and answers that can hopefully help you out as well!

What apples are best for using to make Baked Apples?

We recommend using Jonagold. They are tart with a honeyed sweetness and hold up great when baking. It’s our go-to apple for baking.

Another great option is Honeycrisp!

What tools do I need to make Baked Apples?

You don’t need many tools at all! Besides your oven and grill, you’ll need to have a knife, mixing bowl and aluminum foil.

You can also use an apple corer to help as well.

How long do baked apples grill or bake?

Whether they’re on the grill or in the oven, they’re going to need to cook for about 20-25 minutes. This is so they’re a bit soft and easier to eat.

Can you peel the apples before placing them in the grill or the oven?

While you technically can, I wouldn’t recommend it. The outer apple skin is what is going to hold it all together when it’s cooking. Plus, the apple skin has a lot of great nutritional value as well.

More Grilled Apples!

There’s nothing like a sweet juicy apple on the grill. Here are a few more apple recipes that are made on the grill!

Ingredients

  • 4 apples
  • 2 Tbsp butter softened
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 c. caramel plus more for drizzling
  • 1/4 c. chopped pecans
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. quick oatmeal

Instructions

  • Clean and preheat grill to 350 degrees F.
  • Wash the apples. Then slice off the 1/4 of the apples and scoop out the cores using a sharp pairing knife or apple corer. Cut the holes so they are about an inch wide. Leave the bottom 1/2'' intact.
  • In a small mixing bowl combine the rest of the ingredients. Stuff the apples with this mixture.
  • Place each apple on a piece of heavy-duty foil (about 12 in. square). Fold foil over apples and seal tightly.
  • Grill, covered, over medium heat for about 20 minutes or until apples are tender.
  • When they are done grilling remove from grill and open foil carefully to allow steam to escape. Place apples on plate and top with caramel and ice cream.

Tips

To make in oven - Place foil wrapped apples in baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until soft.
