Want to hear a funny story about baked beans? It dates back to my childhood and contains my little brother and daycare. I used to HATE baked beans. Hate, with a passion, a strong hatred.
When we were growing up our daycare provider loved to make them, of course maybe I just thought that because I hated them so much so it seemed like she served them all the time. All.The.Time.
The rule at daycare was that you needed to eat everything on your plate before you got up to play. Good rule right? I try to do that with my kids too. Unfortunately, you had no say in what you got to put on your plate.
Imagine me as a seven year old being served my most hated food of all time. It was horrific. If I didn’t eat the baked beans for lunch then I got served them for snack. Cold. Cold Baked Beans are even worse than warm!
Enter my little brother into the equation. Luckily for me he ate baked beans. I remember always making sure that I sat next to him when I knew we were going to have baked beans for lunch.
Then I waited, waited until my daycare lady turned her back. As soon as she turned I went to work shoveling baked beans onto my little brother’s plate.
God Bless Him. I seriously owe him for taking one for the team there! I was a terrible big sister wasn’t I?
Now, my tasted buds have changed, matured I’d say and baked beans are no longer being shoveled onto my brother’s plate. I happily scoop them into my own mouth!
I love the fact that these baked beans on the grill are so easy to make. You simply grab a disposable pan, mix them up in it, slap some tinfoil over the top and pop them on the grill.
