I love making these Smoked Ham and Cheese Sliders when I want an easy recipe that’s packed with flavor and perfect for feeding a crowd. I layer ham and Swiss cheese on soft slider buns, then pour a buttery seasoned topping over the top and let them smoke low and slow. By the time they’re done, the cheese is melted, the tops are golden, and I have a tray of sliders everyone goes crazy for.

Why My Smoked Ham and Cheese Sliders are Superior!

When hosting parties I love being able to prep as much ahead of time as possible. I make these Smoked Ham and Cheese Sliders and throw them on the smoker while I finish getting ready for hosting which makes them the perfect dish. This easy ham and cheese sliders recipe makes party prep a cinch!

Plus, you simply can not beat the smoky flavor they get. The butter topping soaks into the rolls and gives them that perfect golden finish, while the inside stays soft, cheesy, and delicious. It’s a recipe my whole family agrees on which is always a win. These really are the best ham and cheese sliders.

Key Ingredients

  • Deli ham – Whether I pick up Black Forest or Honey Ham, the savory flavor shines in this dish.
  • Swiss cheese – Ham and Swiss is a classic combination, but I also switch it up and use Gruyère or Emmental.
  • Honey mustard – I love the flavor of honey mustard so I always keep it on hand. The odd time I don’t have it, I just mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and honey.
  • Worcestershire sauce – This adds a great umami flavor to the melted butter topping so don’t skip it.

Find the ingredient list with exact measurements in the recipe card below.

How To Make Smoked Ham and Cheese Sliders

  1. Prepare buns. Slice slider buns horizontally and arrange the bottom of the buns in prepared pan.
  2. Assemble sliders. Layer ½ the ham on the rolls, top with cheese and then the rest of the ham. Top with the top “slab” of buns.
  3. Prepare topping. In a bowl combine melted butter, honey mustard, dried minced onions, poppy seeds and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk to combine.
  4. Add topping mixture. Evenly and slowly pour the mixture over the rolls. Use a silicone brush to evenly distribute over the tops of the buns.
  5. Smoke. Cover pan with aluminum foil. Let the buns stand for 5 minutes. Then place in preheated smoker and smoke covered for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Remove the foil cover and smoke for another 30 minutes uncovered.
  6. Serve. Remove from the smoker, slice into individual sliders and enjoy immediately.

Serving Suggestions

Ham and cheese sliders are a great meal option or appetizer so anything goes for sides! I love to make a big green salad, Baked Potatoes and of course, Corn on the Cob when I want the whole family to sit together for a meal.

When it comes to an appetizer spread or pot luck, fresh veggies with homemade Tzatziki for dipping is always quick and easy. Plus I love making Smoked Chicken Wings when there’s a great homemade dip on the table!

Pro Tips

  • Slice the rolls as a “slab.” Do not pull them apart in individual buns because you want to keep them connected.
