PIN IT FOR LATER!

Ready for a brand new side dish that will knock your socks off? Then check out these incredible Blackstone smashed potatoes. The texture of these crispy potatoes is out of this world! They have a delicious crust on the outside with a soft and tender inside. Not to mention, the flavor is just incredible. Truly a top notch side dish that is now in constant rotation when we make dinner on the Blackstone — especially when that dinner is Blackstone steak bites.

These are fun to pair with Blackstone philly cheesesteak too. So many tasty options and smashed potatoes are the perfect pairing! Dare I say, they may be more perfect than french fries. I know — it sounds crazy, but once you try them you’ll see what I’m talking about! So let’s get started and make the best crispy potatoes ever.

Why You’ll Love these Blackstone Smashed Potatoes

  • This easy side dish only takes about half an hour to make. Perfect for a weeknight meal.
  • Smashed potatoes are a level up in the potato game. There are so many ways to make potatoes, but these smashed potatoes are so good.
  • You only need six simple ingredients to make these amazing potatoes. You may even have many of them in your spice cabinet already.

Ingredients for Smashed Blackstone Potatoes

  • Baby potatoes – I personally love to use red potatoes in this recipe, but you can use another kind of potatoes if you prefer. Yukon gold potatoes would work! Look for ones called “creamer potatoes”. They’re the smaller sizes of either red or yellow potatoes.
  • Olive oil – Use a high heat oil for best results here. Extra virgin olive oil works, as well as avocado oil or vegetable oil.
  • Butter – Both salted butter and unsalted butter will work in this recipe.
  • Garlic powder – Make the best garlic smashed potatoes with some garlic powder.
  • Sea salt – Bring out the flavor of these crispy smashed potatoes with a little bit of sea salt.
  • Fresh chives – Some fresh chives are the perfect garnish to finish off your Blackstone smashed potatoes.

How to Make Smashed Potatoes

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the potatoes until tender. This will take about 15-20 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain off water and then set aside.

Preheat your Blackstone griddle to medium-high heat.

In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder and salt. Add in the cooked potatoes and toss until each one is thoroughly coated with the oil and seasoning mixture.

Melt the butter on the hot griddle and spread it out into a large surface-area.

Arrange the potatoes in a single layer. Then use your griddle spatula or burger press to smash the potatoes.

Cook for 5 minutes and then flip and cook for another 5 minutes, or until browned.

Remove the yummy potatoes from the griddle and serve immediately.

How to Store Leftover Blackstone Smashed Potatoes

Allow leftover potatoes to cool completely and then transfer to an airtight container.

FRIDGE: Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the oven to crisp up the outside of the potatoes.

FREEZER: For best results put parchment paper in between the layers of potatoes. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Allow to thaw before reheating.

What to Serve with Blackstone Smashed Potatoes

This delicious blackstone griddle smashed potatoes recipe goes well with so many different main courses! Pair with things like grilled chicken legs, grilled cilantro lime chicken, and easy smoked pork tenderloin. It goes well with these Blackstone beef kabobs too.

It’s a bit of a healthier alternative to deep fried french fries too, so pair it with some jalapeño popper stuffed burgers or a Blackstone patty melt. The crispy edges on the potatoes give that classic french fry crunch!

Toppings for Smashed Potatoes

This unforgettable side dish would be so good with extra fun toppings! While you can keep them with just the few seasonings, it is really tasty to serve up some different variations. Here’s some simple ingredients that would make for a great topping:

  • bacon crumbles
  • dollop of sour cream
  • parmesan cheese
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • chives
  • ranch seasoning

Pro Tips for the Best Blackstone Smashed Potatoes

  • Don’t over-cooked your potatoes when you boil them! They will be done in 15-20 minutes.
  • If you do not have a burger press, use a griddle spatula to smash each potato. You can also use the flat end of a cup or bowl.
  • Make sure you wash your potatoes really well before you begin this recipe.
