PIN IT FOR LATER!

If you’ve got the grill fired up to make stuffed bacon cheeseburgers, then throw some chocolate, marshmallows and peanut butter into a waffle cone to make these delicious campfire cones on the grill. This is such a fun recipe and always turns out so ooey gooey! A true family favorite, especially since it’s so kid-friendly and easy to put together.

While we love waffle cones with some yummy ice cream, it is really fun to create a warm and gooey dessert with them too. This recipe is the perfect summer time recipe and is so much fun to make on camping trips! Grab the marshmallow and candy and then let’s get started on making this sticky sweet treat.

Why You’ll Love Campfire Cones

  • You can make campfire waffle cones in just 10 minutes. It really is that quick and clean-up is so simple since everything is wrapped up in aluminum foil!
  • Adapt and change your campfire cones fillings as much as you want. Let your kids add fun candy, pretty sprinkles, and anything else that brings them joy!
  • There are three different ways to make this gooey chocolate dessert. Make them in the oven, over the fire, or on the grill.

Ingredients for Campfire Cones Recipe

  • Peanuts – Leave these out if you have a peanut allergy. We like to use salted peanuts to add a bit of salty with the sweet.
  • Rolos – Rolos are a caramel filled chocolate candy. When they melty in the cone they add loads of gooey goodness.
  • Mini marshmallows – S’more cones need mini marshmallows! It’s the best sticky sweet addition to campfire cones.
  • Waffle cones – While we most commonly use plain waffle cones, you can use chocolate waffle cones if you want!
  • M&Ms – Use plain M&Ms, caramel M&Ms, peanut M&Ms, or another different flavor to shake things up a bit.
  • Peanut butter cups – The little mini bite-sized peanut butter cups work best since they fit into the cones. Feel free to chop up the full sized ones too.
  • Graham cracker pieces – Give campfire cones that classic s’mores flavor with some graham crackers and add them into the cones.
  • Peanut butter – You can use either smooth or crunchy peanut butter.
  • Chocolate chips – Milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, and even white chocolate chips will work great in this recipe. Just grab your favorite and keep a bag on hand.

What Else Can I Add To Campfire Cones?

Wanna let your kids get extra adventurous? These waffle cones can hold any and everything, so let them add whatever they want! It would be really cool to have a bar with bowls of candy. Some tasty ideas are:

  • caramel sauce
  • peanut butter chips
  • crisp chocolate
  • coconut shavings
  • hot fudge
  • sprinkles
  • fresh strawberries
  • candy corn
  • chocolate chip cookies
  • Oreos

How to Make Campfire Cones

There are three different ways to cook this tasty treat! Choose whichever method you like, but you will first need to build each of the cones. Here’s step-by-step instructions on how to do that:

Line each cone with peanut butter if you wish. Then place a couple marshmallows on the bottom of the cone so that the toppings don’t melt out of the bottom of the cone.

Fill the lined cone with your favorite toppings. We used chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, graham cracker pieces and peanut butter but there are loads of different things that you can use.

Wrap the filled cones tightly with aluminum foil to seal well so that the cones don’t need to stand upright.

Oven Directions

Lay each wrapped cone onto a baking sheet and then bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-7 minutes.

Carefully unwrap and serve!

Grill Directions

Preheat the grill to medium high heat and place the cones on the grill grates for 5-10 minutes, turning occasionally.

Use tongs to remove from the grill and then carefully unwrap and serve.

Campfire Directions

Heat the cones over a campfire for about 3-5 minutes, or until the chocolate and marshmallows have melted.

You can either lay them on the hot coals of a fire or use some grates over the fire to lay them on.

Once heated and warmed through, unwrap and enjoy!

How to Store Leftover Campfire Cones

Unwrap your campfire cones and allow them to cool completely. Then re-wrap in a clean piece of aluminum foil or plastic wrap and place into a zip top bag or airtight container. Store at room temp for a few days or in the fridge for up to a week.

When you’re ready to eat, just pop the candy filled cone into the oven for a few minutes until it’s warm again!

What to Serve with Campfire Cones

Serve these fun campfire cones with other foil packet recipes like sausage and vegetables, grilled foil packet potatoes, and grilled green bean foil packets.

Some burgers, grilled chicken legs, smoked hot dogs and other summer favorites are a great dinner to pair with a dessert of campfire cones too.

Pro Tips for this Campfire Cones Recipe

  • To keep the fillings from melting out the bottom of the cone, add some marshmallows into the bottom before cooking.
  • Be careful not to overfill the cones or they’ll get pretty messy when you cook them. I recommend leaving some space at the top of the cone.
  • You can make these seasonal with certain toppings! Mint chocolate around Christmas, pumpkin spice during the fall, etc.
