helpful tools
what is the best type of steak for kabobs?
Sirloin is a great option for any kabob. It stays nice and tender and won’t break the bank. We also love to use ribeye. Filet mignon is a good cut, but pricier because of it’s small size.
How to prepare bamboo skewers for grilling
Add skewers to a container or casserole dish and cover with water for about 30 minutes. This will prevent the skewer from burning while you are grilling the kabobs. Do this at the same time you are marinating the kabobs to stay on top of your timing.
how to cook garlic butter steak kabobs
- Cut the steaks into 1-inch cubes and season with the salt and pepper. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl add the oil, melted butter and garlic and stir until combined.
- Add the beef chunks to the butter mixture, tossing until all the steak is well coated. Marinate at least 30 minutes.
- Thread the beef, peppers and onions onto the skewers.
- Grill on preheated grill for about 9-12 minutes turning skewers occasionally until beef is 135-140 degrees Fahrenheit or until your desired doneness.
- Rest 5 minutes before serving.
pro tips
- If using wood skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes while the beef is marinating.
- If you want to save yourself a step before putting your kabobs on the grill, you can always marinate the steak and veggies on the skewer together.
- Cut steak and vegetables into similar sizes so they cook evenly.
Should I marinate kabobs before grilling?
Yes, definitely! Marinating the steak will add flavor and tenderize the meat. For this particular recipe, I recommend marinating for at least 30 minutes, up to two hours.
how to prevent butter from burning
It would be so disappointing to open the microwave and realize you have burned the butter! To avoid this, cut up the butter into smaller pieces before adding them to a microwave safe bowl and putting them in the microwave. Heat the butter in shorter timed increments, so that you can keep a close watch. Once it is almost totally melted, remove the bowl from the microwave and stir to incorporate the butter and finish the melting process.
If you are using the stove top to melt your butter, use the same recommendations as with the microwave, just stir it every so often and remove from heat just before it is completely melted.
how to serve steak kabobs
Steak kabobs on the grill are perfect on their own for a low carb option, but if you are feeding some carb hungry kids, a Foil Packet Potato is always such a good, easy idea to add to the grill. Switch it up from a regular potato and have Grilled Sweet Potato Wedges tonight!
Salads are always great for more veggies at a cookout, too. We love a classic green salad with all of our favourite veggies or make it a little more adventurous with a Grilled Caesar Salad. Pasta and potato salads are always so great to make ahead and have on hand.
how to store leftovers
Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for 3-4 days. I recommend removing the steak and veggies from the skewers for easy storage as well as reheating.
how to reheat leftover steak kabobs
To reheat leftover steak kabobs, use a frying pan on the stovetop with a bit of water to add moisture and cover. You can also use the microwave with some water so the steak doesn’t dry out.
These Garlic Butter Steak Kabobs are sure to be on your regular rotation this summer! Tender, juicy steak is marinated and cooked to perfection, it doesn’t get much better. Simple and flavorful, plus you get to enjoy sunshine!
