Grilled Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread {Crack Bread}

Love cheesy bread? This delicious Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread is just what you are craving! It’s crunchy on the outside and loaded with melted cheese, butter and garlic. It’s so versatile that it can be made on the grill or in the oven so you can enjoy it no matter where you are or how you are preparing your meal.
Mention the words garlic, butter and bread and I’m totally game for whatever you are going to whip up! Add a good cheese pull like the one above and I’m swooning. Head over heals in love. This Grilled Cheesy Garlic Pull Apart Bread is grilled but you can also bake it in the oven. It’s often affectionately called “Crack Bread”. Essentially Cheese, Garlic and Bread will never, ever lead you in the wrong direction!
If you haven’t tried “Crack Bread” before let me introduce you to your new addiction. Also, you will never be the same. You will want it, crave it, need it forever and ever. It’s epic my friends. The bread is cut into diamond shapes so you can tear bite size pieces off. Take the extra time to stuff the butter and cheese in between the bread. It’s worth it!
Ingredients Needed
- Sourdough Bread – Make sure you use a hearty bread that will toast nicely and hold up to the the cheese and butter inside.
- Mozzarella cheese – Grab a chunk of Mozzarella cheese and grate it yourself. It melts better and so good.
- Butter – Salted or unsalted is fine.
- Salt
- Garlic – Quick tip – Grab a jar of minced garlic and store it in the fridge to save yourself time.
- Fresh parsley
How to Make Pull Apart Garlic Bread
- Preheat – You’ll need to warm your oven or grill to 350 degrees F.
- Prepare – In a small bowl combine the butter, salt and garlic. Melt in microwave. Stir in parsley. Cut the sourdough bread on a diaganol into 1 inch diamonds. Do not cut all the way through the bread, similar to a french stick for garlic bread. Pry each crack open with your fingers and drizzle in butter, then stuff with cheese.
- Wrap & Bake – Take a piece of foil and warp the bread in it. Place on grill or in the oven for 15 minutes, or until cheese is mostly melted. Unwrap the top and grill for five more minutes to make the bread crusty on top.
Expert Tips!
- Use a “crusty” bread like Sourdough or Vienna bread. It’s holds together better when you pull off pieces.
- Make sure to stuff the cheese and butter throughout the entire loaf of bread.
- Cut bread at a diagonally, but not all the way through the bread.
- Use a block of cheese and grate it yourself for the best melted cheese.
- Switch things up and use cheddar, Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, Swiss or Fontina cheese.
- You can assemble this up to 4 hours ahead of time making it easy to make for guests.
- Mix things up by adding bacon, pepperoni, ranch dressing, chili etc.!
- Makes a great side dish, pair with a salad and grilled meat or as an appetizer.
- Don’t over look the bottom! It’s the best part. Think butter and cheese dropping all the way down to the bottom plus it’s nice and crispy!
Reheating Leftovers
- Since the bread is a hearty sourdough you can pop it in the microwave to reheat and it shouldn’t get to soggy because the bread will stand up to the toppings.
- You can also wrap in foil and pop it in the oven at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes to reheat which will make it nice and crispy again.
It’s perfectly paired with Caesar Grilled Chicken Breasts, Kebabs, or Easy Smoked Pork Loin.
I love that you can grill a side dish with your main dish on the grill! Throw some veggies in a packet and you have an entire meal on your grill. No need to warm up that kitchen or make a mess.
