Bowl of smoked nuts

Whenever I go to a party I’m always looking for a quick and easy snack, appetizers or treat to bring to the festivities!

I also love making homemade gifts to share with loved ones, especially around the holidays. Place these nuts in a little bag, tie it with ribbon and you are set.

These quick and easy Smoked Nuts are the answer to all of those problems! The best part is they are so easy to make with only a handful of seasonings, that are probably in your pantry they are perfect for making when you are busy.

Another great time to make these is when you are tailgating or having company for the game. It seems like beer and nuts always go together.

If you don’t have a smoker you can still make these in an oven or on the grill fora delicious snack!

Nuts in a pan on smoker

Ingredients Needed

  • Seasonings – We used pantry seasonings that reminded us of our favorite chex mix. They included seasoned salt, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Nuts – We used a combination of peanuts and cashews. You can really use any type of nut you want.
  • Butter – For this recipe we used salted butter to give them a rich taste.

How to Smoke Nuts

We love this recipe because it’s so easy to make these!

  • Preheat your smoker to 250 degrees F.
  • First you want to mix all your ingredients in a bowl and toss them until the nuts are completely coated.
  • Place the mixture in a disposable roasting pan and place on smoker.
  • Smoke nuts for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Remove them from the smoker and allow them to cool before enjoying.

That’s it! Make a big batch of these and store them in the freezer so you can munch on them whenever you want.

Cashews in a bowl

Tips and Tricks to Making Smoked Nuts!

  • Start with raw, unroasted and unsalted nuts. If you pick up roasted nuts they will burn in the smoker. Also, if they are salted you are going to end up with a really salty smoked nut mixture.
  • Substitute other nuts for the cashews like Pecan Halves, Walnut Halves, Almonds (with skin to hold on the seasoning), peanuts, macadamias, pistachios etc.
  • Mix your seasonings up! Add a little chipotle for a quick. Other spices you could use are ginger, curry powder, cinnamon etc.
  • Allow the to cool completely before enjoying them. The texture changes from soft when they are hot off the smoker to crunchy when they are cooled.
  • After you have smoked the nuts allow them to cool and then store them in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to two weeks. You can also store them in the freezer for 2-3 months.
  • If you don’t have a smoker you can simply grill these or bake these in the oven and follow the same temperatures and instructions. If you want the smoke flavor you could had a bit of liquid smoke to them, too.
  • We recommend using either hickory or pecan wood chips for this recipe.
  • If you don’t want to use a pan you can wrap your smoker grates with foil and place the nuts directly on the foil when smoking.

We hope you enjoy these quick and easy recipe to munch on!

I try to find things to add to the smoker when smoking other items. I came across this and tried it out using apple. I liked it but i think next time I will try the recomended woods from the recipe as the apple was a very light smoke flavor

I’m obsessed with buying smoked nuts at the store, so I had to give this recipe a try. I loved that I could include a variety of my favorite nuts like cashews and substituted almonds for peanuts. It was so good on my Traeger!

As long as they are unroasted and unsalted, that should be fine!
