Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • This recipe so quick and easy to prepare with pantry staples before you put it on the smoker.
  • You can make a big batch, store them in the freezer and snack on them whenever you want.
  • Smoked, seasoned nuts are the perfect homemade gift to bring along to parties during the holiday season!

Ingredients For Smoked Nuts

  • Seasonings – We used pantry seasonings that reminded us of our favorite homemade chex mix. They include seasoned salt, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Nuts – We used a combination of peanuts and cashews. Feel free to use any nuts you enjoy like pecan halves, walnuts halves, almonds (with skin to hold on to the seasoning), macadamias, and pistachios. Start with raw, unroasted and unsalted nuts. If you use roasted nuts, they will burn in the smoker. If the nuts are salted, the nut mixture will be really salty.
  • Butter – For this recipe, we used salted butter to give them a rich taste.

More Seasoning Ideas

Once you have smoked nuts a time or two, switch up the seasoning! We love to add a little chipotle for a kick. Other spices you could use are ginger, curry powder, nutmeg or cinnamon. Maple syrup and brown sugar would make such a good combination for a sweet nut mixture, too.

How To Make Smoked Nuts

  1. In a large bowl, combine melted butter, seasoned salt, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Add cashews and peanuts to the bowl and stir until the nuts are well coated.
  2. Place the seasoned nut mixture in a disposable aluminum roasting pan and place on preheated smoker.
  3. Smoke nuts for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  4. Remove them from the smoker and allow them to cool completely before enjoying.

Pro Tips

  • Allow the nuts to cool completely before enjoying them. The texture changes from soft when they are hot off the smoker to crunchy when they have cooled.
  • If you don’t have a smoker, you can simply grill or bake these nuts by following the same temperatures and instructions. If you want the smoky flavor, you could add a bit of liquid smoke to them, too.
  • If you don’t want to use a pan, you can wrap your smoker grates with foil and place the nuts directly on the foil when smoking.

Storage

Smoked nuts can be kept in an airtight container once cooled. Store at room temperature for up to two weeks.

Freezer: You can freeze smoked nuts for 2-3 months. This is a great way to get ahead on any holiday prep! Allow to thaw to room temperature for about 30 minutes before enjoying.

What Wood Chips Are Best For Smoking Nuts?

We like to use pecan, hickory, cherry, apple or maple wood chips for this smoked nuts recipe.

How To Serve Smoked Nuts

If you are hosting a game day or friendly get together, you’ve got to have an epic snack and appetizer table! We definitely love to make a few batches of smoked mixed nuts with different seasonings in addition to savory Smoked Pretzels and Smoked Snack Mix. There is just something so unique about a smoked snack that makes them a crowd-pleaser. We also love serving classic favorites like Chicken Wings with Ranch, veggies with Dip and Pork Belly Burnt Ends.

More Great Smoked Snacks

  • Salty and sweet Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels are bursting with smoky flavor. They are the perfect snack to munch on while you watch the big game.
  • The perfect snack when you’re on the go and need some protein to keep you going is our Smoked Eggs. They are great to have on hand to add to salads or make Deviled Eggs, too.
  • Need a quick appetizer? Smoked Taco Pretzel Bites are always a great option! You only need three ingredients and they are totally addicting.
  • Elevate a classic Spinach And Artichoke Dip by heating it in the smoker to add a hint of smokiness, you’ll never want the regular baked version again. This dip is so rich, cheese and full of flavor, it’ll disappear so fast.

I try to find things to add to the smoker when smoking other items. I came across this and tried it out using apple. I liked it but i think next time I will try the recomended woods from the recipe as the apple was a very light smoke flavor

I’m obsessed with buying smoked nuts at the store, so I had to give this recipe a try. I loved that I could include a variety of my favorite nuts like cashews and substituted almonds for peanuts. It was so good on my Traeger!

As long as they are unroasted and unsalted, that should be fine!
