It’s such an easy way to make crispy delicious bacon! I use it so many ways – two of my favorites are chopping it up to garnish grilled Caesar salad or grilled asparagus!

Cooked bacon on grill

Can you cook bacon on the grill?

Yes, and I love to grill it for a few reasons:

  • Less mess: When you cook bacon on the stove, the grease splatters and makes a mess. You don’t have that problem with the grill. It’s so much easier!
  • It cooks faster: It doesn’t take long at all – about 10 minutes depending on how crispy you like it.
  • You can grill a big batch: It’s a great way to cook a big batch of bacon at once for meal prep. Once it’s cooked, just keep it in the fridge to add to your favorite dishes.
  • Grill marks: I love the way it looks with the grill marks!

Bacon is so easy to grill, you’ll want to do it this way from now on! If you don’t have a grill, check out how to cook bacon on a Blackstone griddle.

Grilled Bacon Ingredients

Ingredients for Grilled Bacon

Thick-cut bacon works best for grilling. If your bacon slices are thin they might fall through the grates or burn quickly. So, choose thick-cut slices for the best result.

You will also need a neutral high-smoke point oil for prepping the grill grates. Vegetable oil or canola oil are good choices for this.

How to grill bacon

  1. Heat one side of the grill to medium-high heat. Once it’s heated, use a paper towel moistened with the oil to oil the grates.
  2. Lay the bacon strips on the non-direct heat side of the grill. Adjust the heat on the other side to medium-low.
  3. Cook the bacon until it reaches your desired crispiness. Turn them while they grill so they crisp up evenly.

Flavor Ideas for Grilled Bacon

Make plain bacon or fancy it up with some flavor variations!

  • BBQ Bacon: Just before the bacon is done grilling, brush it with your favorite BBQ sauce.
  • Brown Sugar Bacon: Sprinkle some dark brown sugar over the bacon just before it’s done to add a sweet caramel flavor.
  • Seasoned Bacon: Add some of our favorite BBQ rub to give the bacon even more flavor!

Tips for the Best Grilled bacon

  • Don’t forget to use thick-cut bacon! It works best for grilling.
  • Grill it over indirect heat. This means that you should only light one side of your grill and place the bacon on the other side to cook it. If you grill bacon over the flames, it will burn.
  • Keep an eye on it! Depending on how crispy you like your bacon, the cooking time can be short. Don’t leave it unattended because it can go from perfectly crispy to burnt in no time.

How to Use Grilled Bacon

What I love about this recipe is that you can make a big batch and have cooked bacon on hand during the week to add to your meals.

Breakfast: Add it to omelets, scrambled eggs, or make some breakfast sandwiches.

Lunch: Add grilled bacon to your favorite sandwiches, use it as a soup garnish, or add it to salads! I love it with my grilled chicken salad.

Dinner: Crumble it up to use as a pizza topping, top your burgers with it, or stir it into some mac and cheese.

I know you will love grilled bacon once you give it a try! Make some this week and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 12 bacon strips thick-cut
  • 2 Tablespoons neutral oil for brushing grates
Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

  • Preheat grill to medium-high heat – 325°F using one side of the grill burners.
  • Brush cleaned grill grates with a light coating of oil. We recommend putting oil on paper towel, holding towel with tongs and rubbing it across the grates.
  • Place the bacon strips across the grates away from the direct heat source. Turn burners to medium-low and cook until done to your desired crispiness. Watch carefully to prevent burning, flip as needed to control cooking.
  • Serve immediately or save for later.
